Yann Candele Takes Over Hagyard Challenge Series Lead |

 Canada’s Yann Candele has taken over the lead in the 2011 Hagyard Challenge Series after earning strong finishes with four mounts over the last two weeks during the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show and the KHJA Horse Show. Two weeks ago, Candele took home the winning prize aboard Azzaro during the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic, and also placed fifth and sixth. During the KHJA Horse Show, Candle placed sixth, ninth, and eleventh in the prestigious class to earn valuable points towards the $45,000 Leading Rider Bonus.
McLain Ward, who claimed the first and second place honors in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic during the Kentucky Summer Horse Show aboard Pjotter Van De Zonnehoeve and Vocas, currently holds the second place position. Young rider Christina Kelly placed third in Thursday’s event aboard Creata Van Ten Biesen and her steady results throughout the series have now earned her enough points to be tied for third place in the standings with Ian Millar. During the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, Millar showed Instyle and Star Power to fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, during both of the $30,000 Hagyard Lexington Classics.

 It was a beautiful and sunny afternoon at the Kentucky Horse Park as the final day of the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show commenced. On Sunday, top jumper riders turned out to compete for the winning title in the $40,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix in the Rolex Stadium. Christina Kelly and Camirage stole the show after completing an incredible double clear-effort with a blazing jump-off time of 35.655 seconds. Although Kaitlin Campbell navigated Rocky W to a double-clear effort, the duo fell less than a second behind Kelly, earning the second place prize.
Friday night’s Hagyard Lexington Class Grand Prix winner, Yann Candele and Game Ready were the first horse and rider combination to complete the jump-off without fault. Candele and Susan Grange’s Game Ready cut turns, keeping a fast pace. They tripped the beam in 37.871 seconds without fault to become the leaders and set the bar for the rest of the riders. However, with many more to go, their efforts were only good enough for the third place finish.

 McLain Ward continues to hold the lead in the 2011 Hagyard Challenge Series after claiming the first and second place honors in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic during the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. The talented rider completed double clear rounds aboard Pjotter Van De Zonnehoeve and Vocas to earn valuable points towards the $45,000 Leading Rider Bonus.
After last Friday’s $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic during the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show, Canada’s Yann Candele has moved into the second place position, trailing Ward by just 20 points. Candele took home the winning prize aboard Azzaro during the prestigious event, and also placed fifth and sixth with Carlotta Singular La Magnifiqua and Ariana, respectively. Fellow Canadian Ian Millar has slipped to the third position, having ridden Instyle and Star Power to fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, during both of the $30,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic competitions during the Kentucky Spring Horse Show.

Dunkirk and Erynn Ballard Win $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Classic at Bluegrass Festival Horse Show |

 The final day of the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show was welcomed with a cool breeze and a cloudless sky. The $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Classic witnessed talented horse and rider combinations showcasing their skills in an attempt to impress the judges and claim the winning title in the Stonelea Ring. Erynn Ballard and Dunkirk led the class from start to finish and eventually the victory gallop after earning a total score of 179. Kelly Arani and Stars Go Blue finished second, falling seven points behind Ballard and Dunkirk, while Annie Karsotis piloted North Shore to the third place award.
Today’s courses were designed by Patrick Rhodes and simulated riding through hunt country with all of the fences set to 3’ with four 3’5’’ high options and four handy options. Erynn Ballard and Dunkirk, owned by Bur Oak, LLC of Lexington, KY, took the lead in the first round of the Classic, scoring an 83 with four bonus options for an 87 total. Although they were the last to return during the handy round, the duo did not hold back. After choosing the higher option oxer soon after the first fence, they completed a consistent and smooth round, receiving scores of 88 with four bonus points for a score of 92. Their two-round total of 179 points earned the pair the blue ribbon prize.
